Why I Compose

Telling a visual story is a strong way to portray emotions and if done correctly, it tends to stick with us even after the credits have rolled.

We often remember how these films, TV shows, and even documentaries make us feel and that feeling, that emotional connection, is where I believe music has a great purpose.

I’m Roshan Patel, a media composer based in Dallas, Texas, and I am dedicated to writing emotionally driven music for film, TV, documentaries and other forms of visual media. My simple goal is to write a score that becomes an integral part of the emotional DNA of the story. I believe music succeeds where words fail.

My Philosophy

“I believe every great score begins by listening.”

Before writing a single note, I want to understand where the heart of the story is and what the vision of the filmmaker is. My role is to help deepen the audience’s emotional connection to the story.

My Musical Voice

My musical voice is deeply established in cinematic orchestral writing while drawing inspiration from both western classical traditions and the emotionally focused, expressive richness of Hindustani classical music.

I have always been astounded by how melody, harmony, proper instrumentation, orchestration and musical techniques used across all walks of life bring forth different types of emotions. I continue to study this language and am constantly astounded by its depth.
